Sound of Festives

Everybody’s in full costume now. They got their pearly headbands, native sarongs and all those native stuff. How I wish I could also wear those. And all the boys are in Magellan costume. Do you have an idea on what is going on? Okay, it is Sinulog Grand Mardigras. All the Sinulog dancers are preparing themselves for the big event. And I will also prepare myself for a sunny, hot sizzling day.

I went with my mother to take care my younger brother Jake, who will be dancing Sinulog too. It was still dawn when we went to my younger brother’s school. They needed to wear their costumes and put some make-up. When we arrived at school a teacher welcomed us and she let us eat breakfast at the feeding center. I was not hungry so I didn’t go with my mother and brother. I stayed at a table where some costumes were placed. I noticed a boy wearing his cape. He was having a difficult time so I helped him. He thanked me and asked my friendster and yahoo mail. We had a little chitchat because he was already done. I already got a friend in just few minutes. Then after, when my brother was already done they were called to ride on the bus. The bus was already there.

Then at around 9:00 am the bus fetched them. My brother hurriedly went to the bus without knowing that he left his sword and shield. Unfortunately, my mother and I are not going to ride on the same bus, we will only ride on the food committee’s car. I ran as fast as I could so that I can give the sword and shield to my brother. But it was too late.

When we arrived at Fuente, a policeman stopped us. We needed to walk till we reach the Lahug’s cordon. As we walk along the way we saw some face painters. So we had face painting. Actually, the painter was cute. I think he was only a junior high. I was staring at him while he was painting my face. After that we hurriedly ran to the cordon. And at last we were finally there. I saw them dancing their ritual. Then the street dancing began. I packed myself with long sleeves and a cap. I wasn’t able to tell that I was a water girl volunteer. I will be the one to give water to the dancers. And it was fun. But still I was envy with them because they were dancing.

I can still remember the first and last time I danced Sinulog. It was last January 2006. But still I felt that I was also a participant. I really love their dance. But still the most interesting part is to give water to the dancers. Especially that grade four twins who were very cute. The route went to Fuente down to Mango Square. I was not able to carry the hot temperature so I just stayed on the car. Before the car were the props men. I was very happy and it was a fun day under the sun.
