Reflections on Teachers and Teaching

Once I thought that being a teacher is so superior. You’ll dictate and give quizzes and just sit in front of the class. At first I thought that if I will be a teacher my job would be very easy. I will be giving exams and discuss in the class. But when I joined the Know Your School Day program I realized that life isn’t so easy as what I thought of.

Know Your School Day is when the students will apply and act as a student teacher. Of course I also applied so that I can experience being a teacher. And I also want to find out that if being a teacher is easy. I also applied so that I will experience on how to apply. Actually I applied Science C, Filipino and English. Unfortunately, I only qualified at Filipino. Only Madame Gallo interviewed us for the application. We line up there in the faculty and waited for our turn. When it was my turn was very nervous. She asked me questions which maid my brain twisted. I was shaking and I can’t look straight at he eyes. I thought that I will finish the interview and then I’m done. I don’t care if I will not be qualified as long as I had experienced applying. In Filipino, I was qualified right away because Madame Montaño didn’t interview us. She already accepted my application form. And in English only Patrice was qualified. But I was not disappointed in fact I was very happy because at least in three subjects that I applied I qualified one. It was also an advantage to be a Filipino teacher because one of my favorite subjects is Filipino. In fact, the three subjects whom I applied were my favorite subjects. And also in my card, one of my best grades was in Filipino. And Filipino is my specialty.

After the application I was sighed. Then after that day we were officially declared as student teachers for three days. We were given ID. Then the class started. The firs subject was Science A. at first I find it award to have a student teacher. Even though that we had student teachers before but I feel awkward this time. I don’t know why. At first it is unusual but as the time pass by, I was used to it. It seems that when the teachers the student the students do not respect the student teacher as what they respect the true teachers. The class was very noisy and it looks that the teachers cannot control their students. When it was my period, I was a bit nervous. I prepared a game to them so that they will not be sleepy. And after we read Ibon Adarna. Hen my co-student teachers helped me. The class went very fine.

The day went tiring. I can’t imagine that being a teacher isn’t that easy. Being the teacher is that you need to adjust to the class and to your students. You need patience and perseverance to face your students. You also be jamming so that the students will enjoy the class.
